Brewers Recap – 2-2 Split Feels Lukewarm.
Brewers Series Recap
Two of the best offenses in baseball went head to head and didn’t disappoint. Both teams averaged 6 runs per game, spelling a rough weekend for pitchers in both dugouts.
My thoughts: Arguably, the two most consistent starters – Blanton and Lee – got rocked. I expected those two to keep the train on the tracks in this series and they both dropped the ball.
Happ looked good. Not his best start, but he didn’t seem bothered by the oblique on his way to 92 pitches. I wasn’t wild about his 1-to-8 groundball/flyball ratio.
Kendrick and Moyer teamed up to make Pedro’s start on Saturday and were less than stellar combining for 4 ER (5R) off 9 hits in 8 IP. Setting the stage for Walker to give up the walk off HR to Braun in the 9th.
Overall, the pitching was a disappointment. I expected Milwaukee to hit, but this got a little ugly. LA and Colorado are both better offensively, and St. Louis has turned it around in the 2nd half. We need to pitch better against these types of teams.
The hitting was good. Milwaukee is the pitching equivalent of a AA team but it was nice to see the bats working. Low light: Utley went 3-18 on the series. On Saturday the top five in the lineup not named Ryan Howard went 0-20. The aforementioned Howard had a big day: 2-4, HR, RBI, 2 R. Paul Bako had himself a good weekend. He caught 3 games in Chooch’s stead and went 6-14, 3 R, 3 RBI.
