Is Kevin Kolb For Real?

It may be to soon to tell and his numbers may be misleading due to the system he is in but, I have been very impressed with Kevin Kolb in his first two NFL starts.

The New Orleans game was rough, the interceptions hurt and put the offense into a position where they were trailing and needed to try to throw their way back into the game.  That’s where the 51 attempts came from.  But if you look at his 60.8% completion and 391 yards, he really did his well to make the best of a bad situation.  He remained calm and poised and never lost his team through the blowout.

The Kansas City game on the other hand was very impressive.  He only made 34 attempts, a great number when paired with a 70.6 completion rate (24 comp).  He racked up a QB rating of 120.  He’s is now the only QB in history to throw for 300+ yards in his first two starts. Again, it’s not a shock that Andy Reid’s quarterback set that record.

Plus he did this without Westbrook (ankle) and with meaningless contributions from Michael Vick.  LeSean McCoy, Brent Celek and the incomparable DeSean Jackson stepped up with big days in support of Kolb.

He’s 11th in the league in completions and 12th in yards; he’s only made 2 starts and played the back end of a blowout.  I have never been a huge Kevin Kolb fan, I just never felt like he was a starting quarterback worthy of a Super Bowl contender.  And I’m still not sure he’ll be that guy for us in two years but I am glad to see him taking this opportunity to turn some heads.
